I went into the dealership for the 40k mile service which involved some fluid changes, tire rotation and brake wear test. I walked out of there $1300 poorer, after they nickel and dimed me for a bunch of other things that came up during the inspection. I even turned down some of the “suggested services.” I won’t be going back there again. Anyone else get this treatment?

So what did we learn today? For 1300$, you could invest some of your own time, get a few tools and do most of what they did for 1/4 the cost or less. YouTube is your friend and the ratchet will guide you

I worked at a dealership that did this, if you came in for a 60k service they would automatically recommend “additional service recommendations” like efi injector service, alignment, ac refresh service, etc. Would be good for us, makes for an easy 6 or so hours, depending on the car. But honestly, a lot of it was fluff. Only additional recommendations I agreed with were the 60k transmission service and the differential service, both are important fluid services that people forget. I now work at a Lexus dealership and it is strictly by the book for recommendations, no fluff.

First time at the dealership eh? Lol.

It’s ok. It all happens to us once in our lives (not me though, my dad was a mechanic)

This is the reason I bought a model y 4 years ago. My wife had a Mazda c3 I think, made the appointment online, $350 confirmed. After 30 min of arguing over extras and picking up the car to a $600 total I sold the car and got a Tesla. No service in 4 years except tires.

I had a service advisor tell me he pays his techs extra for the recommendations they put on the tickets. I do not trust that dealership.

What did they do to yours? How many miles? Maybe it’s not as bad as you think.

My toyota dealer once told me I needed a rear diff fluid change, I looked at the service writer and explained my suv was not AWD and their was no rear dif… However on another occasion they swapped my plugs and misquoted the price because I have a 6 cyl and not a 4cyl, they did not charge extra because of their quote ,
