Thinking of going for a base 991.1 for my car of choice and was wondering how feasible and reliable the 991.1 is going to be in a daily driving scenario? I think I’ll be putting in a decent amount of miles on the car similar to how much I put in my Focus ST.
Besides the depreciation and maintenance costs, yes!
911s hold their value insanely well so that’s not really an issue. Just look at even an early 90s 911. I’ve seen them for over 100k for sale.
Air cooled cars are a totally different animal than a base 991.1
The 996 Turbo prices would beg to differ. Not too long ago, you could buy a pretty good spec 996 for $40k easily. Now? Not so much unless it’s a total shitbox.
We’ve live in a world where high end cars have held their values for the past few years due to supply shortages and excess disposable income. The world is changing and cars are much more accessible with disposable income falling as house prices, cost of goods are rising. I think we’re very close to seeing it return to the depreciating asset it is.
That being said. The “allocation” factor with some vehicles is going to create artificial scarcity and hold their value. The GT cars and one offs will continue to hold their value IMO.
High mileage does really start to kill the value, even with great condition. Huge delta between low miles and high miles cars, it’s just the cost of ownership. If you’re planning to keep the car it’s irrelevant.
I think that we are going to start to see all cars, even 911s depreciate faster as the electronics all age very poorly. That said, a base 991.1 is likely not going to be worth enough in a reasonable time period to generate more value than just using it for whatever you need a car for
Depreciation is only an issue if he ever decides to sell it. I wouldn’t. That’s why I’d consider a model without Sport Chrono.
