This is mostly for anyone who doesn’t really tamper with the performance settings.
When running a game that is locked to 60 FPS but running at a 90 HZ refresh rate, you can experience a game that feels choppy.
It’s not really noticeable in regular gameplay but I figured I’d share in case anyone does.
The video’s below shows how when the frame limit is set to 60 the character moves at an even frame pace, where as when left at 90 the character moves at different frame intervals.
This is my experience as well, setting the in-game FPS to “unlimited” and then turning on in-game Vsync. While setting the FPS cap in SteamOS and enabling “allow tearing” (turning off SteamOS Vsync). This provides the smoothest image while also minimizing input latency.
This sounds extra convoluted though, what kind of input latency are we talking here? I have never noticed any input latency not messing around with “allow tearing” and letting the SteamOS frame/refresh rate limiter do its thing while keeping in-game Vsync set to off.
I appreciate the idea though, I might have to mess with this and test it out myself, but I feel like I’m especially sensitive to input lag and have never noticed any lag in any game I’ve played on my deck (granted I’m not playing fighting games).
