I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco in the eighties and fell in love with the country after spending two years in the town of Outat el Haj. I recognize that as with every country, my beloved second home has many flaws, but what is love if it cannot embrace its object as it is, admiring the good and acknowledging the shortcomings in the hope that they can be overcome. What I love most about Morocco is the warmth of its people and the diversity of its culture — music, art, architecture, textiles, cuisine, literature — the abundance of riches of a small country on the shoulder of North Africa never ceases to delight and astonish. Plus, they have a a badass football team.
