Now heres one thing u heard recently and didnt try doing it and kinda sounds crazy but maybe logical at the same time idk so i wanted to know your opinions about it.
So basically its advices when you are in a traffic. Put your auto transmission in manual mode. This way you basically lock it on first gear and it could help the life span of the transmission. The idea is that sometimes in traffic if you start to pick just a bit of speed most auto trans will go for second gear ans then you stop and basically upshift and downshift for no reason so you could lock it in first gear therefore no more unnecessary gear change
I did this once because I was getting annoyed how my car kept shifting over and over so I just put in in first and it was much smoother. Problem is that I think 2nd gear would be better because there’s less engine brake but my car isn’t have an option for 2nd gear manually
Whoever said that, has no idea what the 1000s of different transmissions might do in this situation even though he makes that claim.
My Merc, for example, always starts in 2nd gear except when it’s put into sport mode.
I personally don’t like to f*ck with manual mode on older, torque converter auto transmissions. The downshifts are especially cringey (not rev-matched). I just like to leave it in drive.
This is bullshit. First off, if you’re in the kind of traffic where you’d want to keep the first, the slushbox will almost always keep the first (or even just creep) anyway. Second, shifts in and of themselves don’t decrease the life of the trans. Third, if this happens just after starting, you’re just going to needlessly rev a cold engine. And fourth, you’re going to burn a bit more gas this way.
There is one case for manual mode in traffic: engine braking while going downhill is great. Aside from that, I’m not convinced.
LOL OP go fuck ys, you’re probably a mechanic trying to get extra work
OP you had the right idea for the wrong reason. Only benefit to riding lower gears in traffic is so the engine does more of the braking rather than you needing to switch between pedals.
I do that all the time. It’s not necessary but feels natural. Don’t fear factory shift points even tho sometimes annoying, no wear to worry about
, , , . , a ip
Jesus Christ somebody polished this man’s brain to an absolute mirror finish. Where can I get some, OP?

By the time you typed this text, you could have easily searched „how dies an automatic transmission work“ into google and found out, that sticking it in manual mode does nothing.
