Ran into a corporate ex of Toyota who oversees the LC and he said their goal with this new generation is that it will be a vehicle that will have a 25 yr life span with repairs being made only by hand tools. They want this to truly go back to their roots and be a vehicle that is once again used in safaris, deserts and other areas where shops are not readily available.
Not sure how hard/ easy a hybrid engine is to work on but sounds encouraging.
Keep in mind that in non-US markets it will be available with the 2TR-FE (2.7L Tacoma 4-cylinder) and the 1GD-FTV turbodiesel - both pretty simple for emerging markets.
