So I just went to do some shopping and when I got back to my shitty old car, it would not shift out of park.

The solenoid clicks when I press the brake so I’m not sure why it’s stuck. My wheels are against the curb and I’ve read that that can cause it to get stuck in park. Any suggestions?

There may be load on the parking pawl. If you can, try jacking up one of the front wheels while the parking brake is set. That should get the load off the pawl.

You can also see if it has a little plastic cap near the shifter. Remove it with a pick or pocket screw driver and check to make sure the solenoid is actually fully disengaged. Sometimes they stick just enough to keep it locked but still make a sound.

Your fuse probably blew. If you don’t have replacement fuse, insert key to release the shifter so you can shift. You should see a tiny hole near the shifter or it’s covered up
