Mechanic charged me $369.00 just for labor to replace an idler pulley and serpentine belt on top of $150 to diagnose it was the idler pulley that needed replacing (which I brought it in specifically telling them it needed replacing, thats why i brought it in). I can forgive the diagnoses cost, as they might have double checked other pulley to make sure, but an idler pulley seems like an hour job, 2 hours tops, and I don’t see how replacing the belt on top of it ads any labor since you have to take them off to get to the pulley. the total came close to $650 with parts, am I being ripped off

    Yeah that’s high.

    Diag fee should have been dropped at minimum…

    If you have paid it already then it’s a done deal. Just don’t use that mechanic again.

    I did the idler and belt on my wrx in my driveway, I was thinking it was a fwd car that the belt threads through a motor mount or something which I could understand. But on a Subaru? Nah fam. Find a different mechanic
