I just received my OLED LE and after signing in and getting it set up, I did the various tests of issues I saw in this Reddit.
Absolutely no issues. I first checked all buttons. Every button feels as it should (I had an LCD Deck previously) and all buttons function. Then I checked what panel it has, and confirmed it’s BOE. Then did the scariest text last…dead pixels. Absolutely no dead pixels.
I had the feeling that the amount of people saying they had problems with their LE Deck just appeared higher in comparison to the amount of LE Decks actually shipped out. So this is a positivity post for those worried about their LE Decks that there are in fact LE Decks with no issues! 😁
So are these puppies sold out or what? Upvote if true I guess
Just checked, yes it appears Limited Editions are sold out now.
Nooooooooooooooo lmao wait a min I never wanted one but Noooooo for anyone who did XD
My personal experience.
-LCDeck (Flawless, aside from fan failure after 1 year of use, I replaced myself.)
-Limited Edition OLEDeck (RMAing immediately due to dead pixels)
If the selling point of your refreshed model is the screen, and I already own an LCDeck. There better not be a single dead pixel on a 1280x800 screen. It’s glaringly obvious it’s defective whenever I attempt to use it. Can’t look past it because the pixel is full dead, and in the middle of the display.
I can understand some dead pixels slipping by QA in larger panels (4k) and bigger batches but this is just poor poor poor poor QA.
I expected more out of the Limited Edition model.
I’m out here laughing at all the posts about just putting Vaseline on your deck for stuck buttons and not RMAing for dead pixels.
You all got to be smoking crack if you think I’m spending 679.99 on a handheld device with ANYTHING wrong with it.
It’s a shame that the dedicated folks that would bother to spend the premium on the top tier deck get the raw deal with inferior quality.
It’s backwards and I’m sitting here with an Oled LE sealed innit box because I’d rather just return it than find one single dead pixel and deal with the bs.
I did it with the LCD until I got a good device and the singular main reason I spent $700 was to have a superior display. I love Valve but this was sleazy.
Wait…you’re going to return it so you don’t have to potentially deal with the hassle of returning it?
Did that sound better in your head?
Using Samsung screens doesn’t solve the problem, since those are all experiencing bad mura and green tint. The best screen is actually the BOE with no dead pixels. Definitely RMA for the bad pixels, but assuming you get a good one, it’s win.
it has reliability issues it can develop dead pixels later on
What are these reliability issues?
You know, the ones that are non-existant because the device has only been out for like 2 weeks.
the best screen is no dead pixels
LE copium
I had to RMA mine as well, but the LE models are now Sold Out! So I’m not sure how that will affect us 🤷🏻♂️
lcd deck had the worst backlight bleed i ever seen.
the LCD was all BOE no samsung at all
You have been using LCDs for only a few years or what? The amount of bleed was common among all LCD screens a decade+ ago.
My old LG 17’’ 4:3 lcd was nothing but bleed in the 2000’s
yeah backlight bleed from a decade ago, the LCD Deck is worst than that. it is the worst offender of bleed of any device i have ever used.
It is definitely bad. But surprisingly my ex-Switch Lite was even worse. Hence why I ditched it after 3 months.
I am glad you have no issues! Can you point me the tests we should perform? I should get my LE in a week or so.
Sure thing.
I googled “dead pixel test” while in desktop mode on the deck.
It brought me to a website where I can run a pixel test.
It displays a full screen - single color image, you can inspect your screen for pixels that aren’t working.
Tapping the screen, changes the color.
It rotates through the RGB colors White and Black. Look at every pixel on each colored background and determine if any are not working.
Look at every pixel
Lol ok, I’ll start from the top right and count out each of the ~960,000 pixels as I look at every one of them to make sure they’re each tip-top.
…but that’s literally what you do. You scan the screen with your eye balls and determine if any of the 960,000 pixels…are dead.
I’m not sure what your getting at.
No one has said to count pixels. If there is a dead pixel, it’ll be very obvious. Just take your time and inspect each colored screen. If there’s a dead pixel, you’ll see it.
I did say “look at every pixel” but I think he/she’s taking it a bit out of context for a “gotcha” or something.
Just ordered my OLED deck today - can’t wait
Do you hear a very quiet click noise when moving the thumb sticks away from center? Think it’s a design flaw, just curious if others are experiencing it. Not really annoying, but the noise is there. Just very quiet.
I just got mine yesterday and it also does the very quiet click noise. I messaged support about it and am waiting a response
Yes, I believe that’s as designed. My Switch Pro controller and Xbox controllers all do the same.
Same here! I was so worried about dead pixels or some other button issue.
I had to RMA my LE deck for faulty wifi device. Legit can’t even connect to the internet.
How do you check the panel?
I had to RMA my OLED LE for multiple dead pixels, only issue is they are now SOLD OUT! So I’m not sure how that will affect getting my replacement 🤷🏻♂️
Just got my OLED LE, zero issues, zero dead pixels.
