TL;DW: the Gore-Tex expanded PTFE (expanded teflon) patent was made in 1978. The patent expired in 1998. 25 years ago. Anyone can make it now, without using the Gore-Tex brand. However, there are numerous issues with teflon - particularly in a moving fabric. You don’t want to break teflon off your frying pan and eat it, or for teflon to get into the environment (the place that most people wearing Gore-Tex would go). So instead, Gore-Tex switched to the more conventional materials that other manufacturers were using to compete with Gore-Tex.
Gore-Tex is now just a brand name. They don’t offer anything but a higher price tag.
Lol, Gore-tex isn’t real. It’s just teflon, and they stopped using the patent decades ago. It’s just a brand name.

Yeah, but showing Gore-Tex as some futuristic material is straight out of the 90s. There was a whole Seinfeld episode making fun of it.
