Hi everyone!

I’m in a pretty crappy position, hoping to get some advice. I have a 2017 BMW X5 that has been driving like a dream since I got it. I moved to the North Maine woods in April of last year from a southern climate. The past month or so whenever the temperature drops below 35°, when I start my car in the morning it will stall about three seconds later and show the little ❄️ on the dashboard. If I start it again, and then pump the gas, that’s the only way to prevent it from stalling out so I can drive my kid to school.

My problem is that I am leaving DV, so I am completely on my own with 2 little kids, 1 & 5 yo. It’s my first Christmas trying to support us all by myself, and I quite literally can’t afford to take it to a shop right now… Has anyone experienced something similar or worked on a car that had this issue? I guess I’m just hoping that maybe someone might have a ballpark idea of how bad this is? Ofc I know nobody can diagnose my car without checking it out, but I’d be happy to video it happening if that helps. Im woefully ignorant of vehicles, I’ve googled it, but hoping someone can ELI5 because I don’t really understand the mechanical terms.

Wish I still had my dad, hoping another dad can help (: TYSM in advance

I know you’re going to not like this but buy a different car.

Sell that thing before it truly breaks. Go get a hybrid Toyota SUV (Rav4?) or something similar. I know BMWs are cool, but you have to think about the kids and your finances first.

BMWs just get more and more expensive more they age.

It’s not that I don’t want to buy a new vehicle, like I said in my post, I’m leaving a DV relationship (domestic violence) The vehicle isn’t paid off, and for financial reasons I cannot sell it until next summer at the earliest.

So yeah. For right now I can barely afford to give them a Christmas, let alone by a new car. That’s why I haven’t taken it to the shop yet. When things get better for us, of course, I would love to buy a different vehicle, right now it’s not feasible.

Just trying to see if anyone might know if this is something dire, bc Im freaking out about what to do if it dies.
