Hi guys I’m looking to buy a new bmw 240i or a 340i I prefer the look of the 240i. What would you guys recommend, and is the 340i faster or does it sound better compared to the 240i ?

I compared both before my purchase and almost fully loaded the 340 was about 9k more which put it in m2 territory price wise. Realized I never used back seats on last couple vehicles so looked at a 240 in person and fell in love

I have a 340i m sport, it’s a beast, power to spare - never known acceleration like it (in sport mode). Nothing wrong with the 2 series though, both amazing cars

A had a 220i loaner car and was very unimpressed with the interior. I’d imagine the 3 is going to be better in every way (apart from the exterior look) but then again depends what your priority is

3 series is miles better than 2 series in exterior looks. It doesn’t draw polarizing views on a scale of what the 2 series does.

They sound the same with the b58 in both. For normal driving their performance is essentially identical. I found the 3 series to be a little bit more comfortable, but they’re comparable.

I think it really comes down to if you need the 2nd row of seats, because I can tell you that in my 240 they are unusable. That’s really the only noticeable difference I found.

They don’t actually, they have a slightly different exhaust and I think manifold setup so they sound different. My specialist told me and I’ve owned both

In my 60s, I have owned and driven a lot of cars. My 2021 M240i Xdrive is the best car I have ever owned. You can’t go wrong with a M240i.

240i is more fun, little bit faster and better handling. The 340i is more comfy and a better daily. I’ve had both, interior is also marginally better in the 340. Both are great cars, you can’t go wrong

I’ve got a M240i and love it! Really comes down to how usable do you need the back seat to be and 2 or 4 doors?

I wanted 2 doors and don’t need the back seats for more than tossing a coat or something back there.

I had the old shape m240i and it’s been my favourite car ever. Wish I’d kept it.

It is just coupe vs sedan. Last gen 240 and 340 have exactly same engine. I actually like the interior and looks of 2 series, and purple color ( unique for 2 series ) is gorgeous.

Do you 2 doors or 4 doors?

Is easy access to a rear seat a priority or, are you fine spending more time utilizing the boot?

The performance and driving experience of the two vehicles is similar enough that what you’re left with here is determining which best fits your daily driving goals.

The test drives will tell you more than anything. You may go in locked on the 340 but then the extra play at the 240’s rear has you leaving in it instead.
