I bought my SUV in 2017. It came with an aftermarket remote start with a one way remote. Basic, but it’s always worked fine.

Haven’t had to use the remote start all summer. Just started using it again the last couple weeks.

I replaced the battery in the remote already. Locking and unlocking works fine.

Sometimes the remote start works but most of the time it doesn’t. Friday I tried about 10 times and it kept falling. I moved my SUV to be closer to a venue I was at and at I turned to walk in the building I tried the remote start one last time. …Finally started…first time in over a week.

I Googled the instructions for the remote I have and followed the instructions to toggle Valet Mode(never heard of Valet Mode till finding the instructions). Made no difference.

About two weeks ago I was very far away and kept pressing the remote start button over and over and over. Finally started like the 5th try .

My check engine light is not on, I already tried disconnecting my battery and letting my SUV sit for a minute. This reset my clock and trip/milage meter but did nothing for the remote start.

Any ideas?

It’s possible that your aftermarket remote starter is failing. You might look into a local shop that installs whatever brand you have and see if they diagnose faults.
