My boyfriend is an apprentice and has asked for some specific things for Christmas … I want to make sure I’m getting the best of the best brands / quality so I thought I’d shot my shot here for advice

  • unique and durable bungee cords who makes the best bungee cords? What sizes are generally needed?
  • assorted funnels any must size needs or qualities I should consider?
  • unique and rugged extension cord at least 15 feet are all extension cords created equal or are there features and brands that are more helpful than others?
  • 3/8 to 1/2 adaptor piece I have no idea what he means by this.
-half inch drive pneumatic impact wrench that’s adjustable I have no idea what this means or how to find one that’s adjustable. Which parts are adjustable?

Apologies if this is the wrong form I’m just getting overwhelmed with choice on google and thought I’d see what Reddit comes back with!

Your first 3 items could be considered consumable, which means that they will need replaced with use. The amount of use & the abuse impact longevity greatly. You can spring for expensive top quality for long life, or you can go for less expensive with a plan to replace more often. If he is working in a super-busy, top-notch shop, you might consider getting the best. Otherwise I would consider Harbor Freight for those items. You can often buy 2-3 of an item so you have spares for about the same price as top quality.

The last 2 items you can get at HF as well. It really depends on how much he is going to use them and how rough he is going to be on his tools.

For an example, the Snap On truck would have a great quality impact gun with a great warranty. But for the cost of that gun, you could get a medium grade impact and adapters, and HF for the first 3 items, for approximately the same cost.

Neither direction is wrong, it really depends on which is more important to you (him)- quality or value.

3/8 to 1/2 adaptor piece I have no idea what he means by this.
-half inch drive pneumatic impact wrench that’s adjustable I have no idea what this means or how to find one that’s adjustable. Which parts are adjustable?

First 3 are generic items you don’t really need to worry about brands.

Note: Anywhere you go to shop for these tools will have someone who can show you exactly what your bf is asking for, don’t be intimidated, these are basic tools.

Snap-on tools are my go-to, but I’ve got stuff from Harbor Freight just on convenience and price. Price difference on impact wrenches are $500+ from Snap-on vs $100 for Harbor Freight. I guess it depends on budget, but Home Depot and Lowes are also options, Matco, Mac Tools, etc.

The adapter piece is just 3/8 on one side going to 1/2 on the other. Just look for the section labeled sockets, extensions, adapters or any combination of those. Or just ask someone where they keep the socket adapters.

For the impact wrench, it’s just that…a 1/2" air impact wrench. The 1/2" is the size of the bit on the end, it allows it to fit into 1/2" sockets, and I’m assuming he wants a wrench that’s got adjustable speed.
