Just received my 512GB OLED deck and upon unboxing the device I’ve noticed that the Y X A B buttons are rattling when you move the device.
Upon looking it seems the X and Y buttons sit more into the body of the deck and and when you hold them and slightly shake the deck there is no rattle.
Anyone else have this issue?
i have the same issue. Y and X rattles so hard, it annoys me while gaming ….
Multiple threads about this. Seems like common issue.
Check my thread https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/tH6jPG9c6Q
Please also report to Valve so they acknoledge this and make revision ofABXY buttons.hopefully enough people raise they voice ane xoncerns to Valve.
Seems like common issue.
It’s not really an issue if it’s not causing any problems in functionality. It’s more about perceived quality (subjective) by the end user.
Mine is causing issues in functionality. Played some Dead Cells and Dave the Diver, as the jump and swim action was mapped to the A button, it would take multiple presses at times to register an action.
Noticed that when holding the deck to look at the trigger and bumper buttons face on, there is a bigger gap on the right side of the shell than the left, it’s almost like the controls on the right side of the device aren’t sitting properly.
I’m still waiting on a reply from Valve support regarding what I can see and the issues faced.
Gotcha. That’s definitely not normal behavior. I think they loosened the tolerances to prevent the some of the buttons from getting stuck or caught along the edges of the outer shell.
After a year of usage, the B button on my 512GB LCD has developed a nasty tendency to grind along the right edge if I play games that require quick, repeated presses (like dodging/dashing in Cyberpunk).
So far it hasn’t happened on my 1TB OLED. The buttons are definitely looser, but not in a way that feel sloppy or screws up any of my inputs. But I guess time will tell whether that’ll last.
In my case it doesn’t cause any functionality issue. But hear me out. It’s poor engineering. First thing i noticed when i picked my new steamdeck is something rattling. I tought something was forgotten inside. Turns out it’s the ABXY buttons loose…
When i pick up my 40 euro Xbox controller everything feels solid, no rattling whatsoever. I bet PS5 controller is not rattling also.
I would expect the same from 600 euro device.
Same happens to me, and seems to be pretty common with the OLED model. Something was redesigned around the button area probably.
For 99% of people seems to be a non defect, and I wouldn’t worry. In my case, I think I will return it, not because of the rattle itself, but the X button in particular is so loose that can be depressed diagonally, and can get stuck (I play a lot of retro games, and in general games that require smashing buttons, where it’s more likely to happen). Other than that, I could very well live with the rattle.
