That’s not quite what the article you’ve just linked says. What it says is that the judge granted an interim request for the plates to be picked up by Tesla. It’s a ‘win’ in that it allows Tesla to continue their business, but it isn’t (yet) a win of the case itself. The litigation is still pending.

Another thing nobody is talking about in here, 90% of Tesla’s workforce in Sweden voted against the Union. The Union then went after the post office to stop the delivery of license plates once they were rejected.

This is so weirdly inaccurate. The union didn’t ”go after” the post office, the postal worker’s union (another union) went into sympathy strike with the metal worker’s union, and hence stopped delivering to Tesla. Transportstyrelsen that discharge the plates (and the only ones who can) are using PostNord which is very unionized with the postal worker’s union, and PostNord won the procurement to be Transportstyrelsens only delivery agent.

The 90% number is also fake and can’t be backed up.

My understanding is that all service centers in Sweden are still servicing cars so at the very least a decent % of Tesla employees are not on strike while media makes it seem like most service technicians at Tesla are on strike.

I also can’t find any source on % of Tesla employees on strike, so it’s difficult to gauge other than what media is reporting on, most of which don’t actually focus on Tesla employees but on other unions in Sweden refusing to work with Tesla.

This is the only thing I could find coming from a Tesla employee: https://www.na.se/2023-11-16/tesla-ar-den-basta-arbetsgivare-jag-haft

It’s paywalled and not in English but it’s been translated by a few ppl.

Can’t find anything about a union vote in Sweden. I feel like there isn’t enough info about what the Tesla employees want to really form an opinion here.

That’s not the same as a union vote. It’s also not particularly surprising that non-union workers would not strike… since they’re not in a union. The whole point of this action is to give those workers collective bargaining leverage — the power to strike, effectively.

Sounds like the Swedish Transport Authority was denying Tesla the ability to pickup their own license plates.

“Tesla can collect its license plates from the manufacturer Scandinavian Motorcenter. If the Swedish Transport Agency does not agree to it within seven days, a fine of one million kroner awaits, Norrköping district court decided on Monday afternoon.”

Because they won against the government but the government never took away their right to take out license plates. It was postal service workers who were sympathy striking and not delivering the plates. Which they have a right to do and they lost that law suit against the postal service.

It is an interesting case though. A car company from “land of the free” vs an actual land of personal freedoms.

The real question is, which is more damaging for Elon: Losing Sweden as a market for Tesla or letting one union get a win. With his pride and public image, I think it is the latter.

When economist said that the UAW would hurt the economy, what they ment was paying people a fair wage. With decent benefits

One big union strikes, others usually follow. We saw this when other companies gave better contracts as well. Now Tesla, the union buster, wants to attack a place for trying to give people a fair wage, and decent benefits

They’ll never win, and if they want to suffer. Let 'em

Companies sue governments all the time if they think regulations are being unlawfully applied. Courts adjudicate it and tell regulators to back off if the state is in the wrong. This is a non-issue if it wasn’t the spark for an anti-Tesla circle jerk.
