I just got a 23 CX-30 and want to install dashcams for the new car.

Normally I see people putting the wires inside the gap between the roof and the A pillar. This works if there is no airbags nearby. However, from the collision test video here https://www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle/mazda/cx-30-4-door-suv/2020, it seems like that the covering panel of A pillar will pop out when a collision happens. If the cable is put inside the panel, the cable itself may pop out also and hurt driver/passengers.

Another headache is for the rear camera that usually requires a wire put into the top side panels. But CX30 has curtain airbags also.

So the only way for CX30 to have a dashcam is to buy those integrated ones? Amazon sells one at above $200 and it takes power from the electric port of the sunroof I believe. How is everyone dealing with this issue?

You can run wires behind the airbag if you’re doing it properly. It will require popping off a pillar panels and fishing the wire through, but it’s absolutely possible.

I just bought a dashcam just yesterday, thinking of my plan of attack with installing on my CX5, as I bought a rear dash cam, too. I think you either need to compromise with dangling wires out in the open, a 12v system, accept your fate with putting the wires close with these side airbags, which many seem to do tbh. Or you can fish the entire wiring system down the floor, or route the wires near the floor instead of above like many do. I think you still have to fish it through some areas through some of the pillars, but the exposure of much of the wire, in the event of a crash, to you would be near your legs, rather than your neck, I guess.

Edit: I guess still you can do a proper wiring around the airbags, but you’d need to remove panels completely so you have proper access to the wiring behind the panels and airbags. Maybe buy some zipties, too. Also this is why there’s dashcam installers that can professional install dashcams and other stuff for you. I don’t think there’s much risk to routing wires with the airbags around. As long as the car is parked and completely off, the airbags shouldn’t deploy randomly.

Odb for power. For wiring I just put it through the top trim. Doubt it will mess up air bags since the power cable will much quicker disconnect than prevent deployment.

I wrote a guide for running dashcam cables on my CX-9 and posted it to a Mazda forum. Quick Google search should get you the link.

Because I already went through the labour of taking panels apart and figuring out how to run the wires myself. Then I sat down to write it, while including the pictures I took during the process. I’m not making anyone do anything, I just posted so that they would be able to find it if they wanted to look.

I could provide the link, I suppose. But you could also get off your ass to do a 3 second search and find it yourself.

You didn’t consider that there are probably several dozen, so if we want to find YOURS specifically then YOU should point US to it.

Try not being a dickhead? It will work wonders IRL. Cheers.

Try following your own advice re: being a dickhead. You’re being a prick just because I didn’t hold your hand during a Google search.

OK weird so I searched “YIZZURR guide for running dashcam cables CX-9” and it was just tasteless nudes of men? What?

So now you’re reverted to an immature attempt at crude humour. Seems I was at least partly right about the hand-holding, but hey, at least you know how to do a Google search! Good try little buddy, maybe you’ll get it right next time.

For anyone else who might actually be serious, my Reddit username is not the same as my forum username, but that shouldn’t matter much as there are dozens of guides available according to pina_koala.

I believe if you fit the wire on the A-pillar closest to the windshield it wont obstruct the airbag since the A-Pillar opens the opposite way for the airbag deployment away from the windshield. You can also use clips to push into the A-Pillar to keep the wires out of the pillar.
