Why would he be regarded as a what if? he was extremely accomplished, lots of players didn’t do much further than 30 in those days so he had most of his career
Because he couldve accomplished a whole lot more, yes he accomplished more than the average player, but with what he did accomplish he is rarely talked about as being one of the greatest of all time, and 28 is a pretty young retiring age thats when most players are in their prime still playing
28 now is not 28 then. He is regarded as one of the best players ever. He’s hardly a what if. The suggestion of a what if is that they may have achieved great things ‘if’ something else happened. But he did achieve great things.
