Pato and Pogba
I don’t know if I would regard someone like Paul Pogba who has won a FIFA World Cup (and scored a goal in a FIFA World Cup Final) as a “what if” player. It doesn’t get any bigger for a career.
I’d put Pogba in the category of players who, despite their successful careers, could’ve been so much better. Pogba realistically should’ve been an all timer midfielder, compared with the best in history. Instead he’ll be remembered as a good player with moments of absolute brilliance who was untouchable on his day.
I’d put other players like Rooney and R9 in this type of category, even if all three are on different tiers
He could have been even better though. I’ve never been so frustrated by a player. Such talent, but often a rotten attitude to his career.
