The title basically. I got the RE4 remake and it runs fine for the most part, but only on the lowest settings and dips at times, especially when using scoped weapons.

I think if a game is to be “verified” it would be great to know how to best enjoy the game so I don’t have to experiment with settings for 20 minutes before actually playing a game. Cause otherwise I feel like most verified titles should just be tagged playable.

Only game I’ve seen do something like this is Cyberpunk. That game has a steam deck preset which sets all of the settings up, which made it so much more enjoyable to know I was getting a great blend of quality and performance

The same thing could be said for playable games. I feel limited to the controls in tf2 wish I can take some of the commands from the settings to the deck but it seems I have to use the keys from the keyboard for it to work. But it’s going to be a bit hard for me since I know minimal of a few things

yeah I’m new to this but having a hard time with some games, especially when when it comes to ingame limit/vsync vs gamescope and how to interpret the readout itself as far as what is desirable (beyond fps)

Funnily enough, I actually despise the steamdeck preset settings in cyberpunk lol

Their preset doesn’t even give a stable 30, last time I used it.

The best settings I’ve used so far for Cyberpunk were from a youtube channel called Pixel deck.

I was going to recommend ProtonDB but according to your edit, you’ve already discovered it! Congratulations, it’s life changing!

What RE4 settings did you settle on? I bought it and my OLED is out for delivery.

Also what’s this proton? Isn’t that the backend application in the deck that helps it run games?

I don’t think it is a good idea because it makes it dependent on the developer, and I bet most won’t do it. In the end we would end up with a bunch of games that are not verified but otherwise could run great and you would never know unless you tried.

That said, there could be a seal or something stating that the game has official settings recommendations.

After playing Starfield on the deck for awhile (it’s definitely playable with the right settings!) I was blown away by how well Cyberpunk 2077 looks and runs on the Deck. The fact that it has a graphics setting CALLED Steam Deck was icing on the cake.

I don’t believe the scope issue has been fixed on all PC and console versions of RE4 Remake and there’s not much that can be done about it until the devs fix it.

Of course, it would be nice if more developers could make Steam Deck specific settings but it doesn’t seem to be high priority compared to getting the game out and fixing bugs or making enhancements unrelated to game settings.

This is actually a requirement already. To be verified it must have “good” default settings. This means it must run “acceptably” out of the box without configuration. However different people have a different perception versions of what acceptable is. They could say it must have optimal settings - but again what you consider optimal won’t align with what the developer or others consider optimal.

For example IMHO the cyberpunk steam deck preset was rubbish - so it’s basically impossible to get the right balance.

I agree with this as a lower skilled user without experience in PC gaming is unlikely to find tweaking all of the settings of every games they play to get them best experience fun.

I think most people here have PCs that are pretty overspeced for what they play. Of course you don’t have to tweak settings on a 32GB RAM station with an RTX 3090. But anyone who plays with something older (my gf on a GTX 970 for example) doesn’t open a game and get 90fps on high settings. Hell, RE4 has minimum requirements above my gfs computer. Just a year ago, that was actually my pc and working around the 8 GB of DDR3 RAM just to not stutter in Satisfactory was a daily experience.

And the Deck is a lot closer to a low end pc than to an RTX gamestation, so tweaking may be needed to get everything working properly, it’s normal. It should be reflected in the badge, but as long as you can get it working, I’m fine with it having a good badge.

Sometimes Verified means nothing.I remember when the deck first came out, I tried to play God Eater Resurrection. It’s verified, so I figured it would be all good. But the moment you go to create a character, the controls lock up, and you can’t do anything. I sent a message to Steam Support about it, but I don’t think they did anything about it. I think it is still broken to this day.
