Since one of the recent updates (not sure of exactly which one), my Steam Deck will not go to sleep - whether from pressing the power button or via the Steam Power Menu - when my SD card is inserted. As the title mentions, it initiates the sleep cycle but will immediately wake back up within 5 seconds if my SD card is in. I am, however, able to put it to sleep if I remove my SD card and reinsert after it is “fully asleep”.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a fix from my searches. There were a few threads that mention the “storage device maintenance tasks” at the bottom of Settings > System, but that didn’t make a difference for me.
Before I try backing up my SD card (essentially my emulation storage) and reformatting it, has anyone else experienced this and know of a fix?
Weird, this is new to me. Have you tried using the disk utility repair functions in settings/storage?
Hmm… I went to go look at this in the settings and my SD card is no longer showing up as mounted. I rebooted into Desktop mode and can’t mount & open it there either.
Upon closer inspection, it looks like the skin on my Deck warped/sagged a little around the SD port and seemed to be putting just enough pressure on the end of the SD card to cause issues with the connection inside the port. This may not be the actual issue, but the quick remedy below at least is moving in the right direction.
A few minutes with my wife’s hairdryer and some movement of the Deck’s skin, I’m able to read the card while in Desktop mode. I’m currently backing up all of the card’s contents (mainly saves for emulators) before I boot back into Gaming Mode and test its connection again there.
Side note: kudos to EmuDeck, yet again, for their new export tool. While intended for those migrating to the new OLED Decks, this is very handy for me right now!
You’re not alone. Same issue. Same “fix”. Really annoying. Hopefully theres a more permanent fix that doesnt require reformatting the card
Pls let me know if u find a fix. This just happened to me today. Had I known I would have never done the system update
