Just watching the Spurs Villa match, VAR took about 3 minutes to work out that Ollie Watkins was offside.

The whole reason the offside rule was introduced was to prevent forwards from gaining an unfair advantage - in essence to prevent players from goal hanging so a team could launch the ball forward for them to score unopposed.

The fact is that it takes 3 minutes to draw lines on a screen to determine if a player’s shoulder is in front of a defender’s fingertip suggests that they were level and that there has been no unfair advantage gained.

I get that VAR now gives us absolutes but if it takes more than 15 seconds to determine then can’t we conclude that players are level and that they haven’t gained an unfair advantage?
