Is there any way to automatically set profiles for Remote Play settings depending on how the Deck is connected to the network?
I use remote play a fair bit for games that run poorly on Deck or would otherwise be a pain to manage, in both handheld and docked mode. When the deck is docked it’s connected to gigabit ethernet and a 4k TV so I set remote play to max out the capture resolution and bandwidth, but when connected to wifi I’m playing on the deck screen so restrict it to 720 / 40mbps. Changing this back and forth is a little annoying and I’d like to automate it if I can - ideally to trigger based on the type of network connection.
Is there a Decky plugin that could do this? I couldn’t see anything on a quick scroll through the store but I may have missed something. I’m aware of the remote play option to change desktop resolution to match the client but this causes issues with some games.
I don’t have an answer, but you left out how you’re doing remote play, and that could potentially change the answer if someone has one for you. Are you using the built in steam remote play, the steam link app, moonlight, or something else?
My biggest question is do you need to have lowered settings for WiFi? Like are you having actual issues streaming over WiFi or are you just assuming you would? Even with the WiFi 5 in the LCD model, there should be no issue getting as high a bitrate stream as you want.
Yes, depending where I am in the house. In the living room where the router is I can max everything and display latency is 10-15ms. However when I’m upstairs I get regular lag spikes and the lower bitrate helps with that.
Of course, the real answer is that I need to resolve the underlying issue of weak wifi signal…
