Hi all, recently got the new OLED Steam Deck. I wanted to bring to light an issue that I was having that I found a fix to through various online scrounging.

I’ve been messing about getting Remote Play to work for the past couple days and found the primary issue being that Remote Play through the “Gaming Mode” comes with some headaches. The primary issue I had was some brightness/color issues through streaming my PC to my Deck. Everything was extremely dark, and certain colors were not displaying correctly (notably Orange becoming a deep Red).

I found some solutions online saying that the “Hardware Decoder” function in the Steamdeck has some issues so I turned it off. It did solve brightness/color issues but then resulted in a heavily artifacted image, as well as the SteamDeck menus not displaying while in game (they do open, but you can’t see them).

So I decided to try out the Desktop version of Steam to see if I had any luck streaming from there, and Lo! I’m able to use Hardware Decoding with no brightness/color issues or severe image loss. However, you can’t use the Steamdeck menu functionality in Desktop mode from what I saw, which is a bit of a downer.

Has anyone else had similar issues that could share their findings? I’d be interested to see what other solutions there could be to get the Main SteamDeck Mode’s Remote Play working better.

Run into all of the issues you mentioned. For now just using “hardware decoder” off. Hope there’s a solution for the gamma/color issues with the “hardware decoder” because menus work flawlessly in that mode but its unplayable with inaccurate gamma.
