For me I would like the following
-
More power with the same battery life
-
Same 800p OLED Screen, but supports 120hz VRR
-
Vita D Pad and switch placement with left trackpad (They can sell 2 models for classic set up)
-
Official Dual Boot support with Windows specific Software for the same TDP Control etc and more driver support
-
2 USB C ports
-
More Color options (White, Gray, Black, Orange, Translucent)
-
NVME 2280 support
I hope that with the Deck 2, which is still 2 years away probably we get a larger battery, a better APU likely based on RDNA3+ or better at that point depending how technology shifts and the OLED panel that the current one has, maybe with a slightly higher refresh rate of 120/144.
Hopefully they find a way around membrane switches underneath all the buttons, as I’ve never been a huge fan of membrane and there’s gotta be better options out there, not saying the buttons are bad I just hope we’re getting something more reliable than membrane as in my experience that stuff usually gives up quick.
If we’re going to have more power a 1080p OLED screen with 120HZ VRR would be nice
My list:
- I want a 1080p screen, with a micro-led option (will probably push the upper range of the device into the low thousands), 120 hz maybe, 90 hz minimum
- Battery life similar to the OLED, but as low as the LCD would be accepted
- Needs more power, run more recent AAA games, and doing well with most / all of them
I think everything else is fine. More case options is probably beyond the scope of what they really should want to do. A larger, faster NVME SSD is pretty much a guarantee anyways, no need to ask for that.
Micro not Mini LED is superior to OLED, more expensive though. Would probably double the price of the handheld, but there are plenty of people (like me) that would buy it anyways. Should only be an option, not the default, unless they somehow manage to do it at the same pricepoint as OLED; otherwise their sales will drop considerably.
-
VRR.
-
Slimer vertical brezel (the horizontal brezel has already been improved).
-
More transparency on parts sourced, Deck lottery is bad practice.
-
Loyalty program. Yes, we know about Founder’s curse. But if you product takes off, show your appreciation to your Founders won’t hurt. They support you before, you want them to support your next product launch, right?
-
More colour option should be doable. Not everyone is comfortable performing a four hours operation on their Deck.
-
If possible, a slimer Deck, but only if it doesn’t trade off structural integrity.
Aside. I think a 800p screen is fine because it contributes to battery life. Anything larger should keep a minimum of 2.5 hours battery life in mind.
-
SIM card slot so I can grab a cheap data plan and always have “access” even when offline mode is fuggy.
External GPU support.
Wireless charging with the option for a case with a build in powerbank.
But overall these would be nice extras. I’ll be happy with even longer battery life and performance.Higher TDP in docked mode using eGPU.
- 1080p OLED
- Dock profiles and seamless docking support
- Spatial Audio / Atmos Support (more speakers)
- Increased Proton compatibility with older games for preservation
- Ability to import other stores games into steam like battle.net or epic games store without “workarounds” for easy compatibility management.
