I’m trying to get some stuff together ready for my deck to arrive, and I want to use it like a PS and hook it up to my TV. Problem is I need an independent controller that would work well for the decks layout.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

There’s no wrong answer per se, but the Dualsense might be the best option, just due to having the touchpad, gyro, and analog triggers.

I have both an Xbox controller and a ps5 controller for my Steamdeck, and I’m almost disappointed at how similar the experience is. I’d say go with whichever you’re most comfortable with, though if neither ps5 or Xbox is your groove, the 8bitdo ultimate seems like the perfect controller.

Kinda? When I played Marvels Spiderman(LOVE the game), I didn’t really feel like there was much of a difference between the Xbox and ps5 controller. It was so small switching between the two it really surprised me. I bought the ps5 controller thinking it was going to be noticeable but it wasn’t, and I switched between them within like 3-4 minutes of each other.

The problem is that most games won’t match the glyphs, so you’ll have ABXY on the screen and symbols on your controller.

That’s definitely true. I’ve had to just kind of lean to be bilingual but if there nonnegotiable factor then I’d recommend an Xbox controller.

My problem is that I occasionally play Switch games, and PC games suppose the XBOX layout so I often get confused between A and B, X and Y.

I use the Xbox Series controller with my Deck and love it. The only problem is it doesn’t have touchpads, but I don’t need them often enough for it to make a huge difference.

I really enjoy using Steam Controller and Flydigi Vader 3 Pro. The latter takes a bit to get the extra buttons to work, but I managed to find a pretty usable work around using macros and steam input (good luck finding them in stock though).

Most games will show XBox buttons and not Playstation or Nintendo buttons. So if the game tells you “push X” and you have to look at the controller to figure it out, get an XBox controller.

Otherwise, if you have muscle memory for Xbox layouts already, go with whatever you’re most comfortable with. Dualsense (PS5) is my favorite.

Xbox controllers lack gyro (which is an important feature to have for FPS games), so I would recommend a Switch or PlayStation 3/4/5 controller.

(Most games will use Xbox button prompts instead of Nintendo/PlayStation button prompts, although this isn’t a huge issue IMO.)

The DualShock 4 and DualSense have a trackpad, which is nice for menu/desktop navigation and hotkeys in games.

I just have a couple 8bitdo sn30 pros that do great for when I wanna just swap or play some games with a friend. Pretty decent and compact - I even did BG3 on one. If you want something bigger I’ve used both an Xbox one controller and a ps4 controller and they are both good

PS5 controller had been the best for me. I’ve tried series and Google stadia controllers. PS5 just seems to work better. Plus the track pad is an added bonus
