Hi im looking to buy used low mileage Mazda 2016-2020 in Eastern Europe. Miles per gallon is not an issue, i want to drive it long term 50% city 50% highway. Which petrol engine is more reliable 2.0 or 2.5 naturaly aspirated ? And does year of manufacturing matter. I was thinking 2.5 because its more powerful but i’ve seen some posts about blown 2.5 engines, oil leak, head gasket leak etc are these issues wide spread?
I would say both engines are really reliable (I have a 2.5 and did a lot of research before buying one). I’ve read about the issues cylinder deactivation causes but I think here in Europe is less of an issue as we normally drive at higher speeds on the motorways (120-140 km/h being the norm versus aprox. 110 stateside) and it doesn’t kick in at those speeds. I’d say I was a tiny bit disappointed with the torque of the 2.5 coming from a diesel so I wouldn’t imagine how less torquey the 2.0 would feel. To top it all off, the signature trim here in Europe only came with the 2.5 so my choice was clear.
Thank you for the reply. How many kilometers/miles is your mazda 6? And do you think the 2.5 could last at least 300k kilometers/ 186000 miles?
Mine’s got very low mileage, just over 30 thousand. Honestly, I can’t see why it wouldn’t last that long provided you stick to the maintenance schedule and use high quality oil. Where I live we don’t get extreme winters (can get to -5 but it’s very rare) but we do get very hot summers, let’s see how the rest of the car ages but I’m planning on driving it until it stops, at least 15 more years.
Edit: just wanted to add that I do keep it in a garage so that probably should help with aging of the exterior and some plastic components.
