Hello! I bought my first plug in hybrid today. 2024 Volvo XC60. When I charged it for the first time, I noticed that my car is making a very high pitched whirring sound under the hood. Sounds like an electrical current. I turned the charger off and removed the cable, and the whirring persisted for about a minute before turning off.

I used the charging port and cable that came with my house “Lectron Home Level 2 J1772 EV Charging Station | 240V | 32 Amp | NEMA 14-50”

I’m a total newbie and just want to be sure I’m not at risk of damaging my vehicle or home :) Thank you!

It could be a few things.

If the battery is cold, many models use the motors to generate heat to warm the battery to an optimal temperature

If could be the onboard charger that converts AC to DC

If the battery is hot, it could also be a fan. But this is quite unlikely while charging at home. Much more likely on a road trip when DC fast charging.
