Other cars I’ve driven can’t just freely go into reverse while in drive, I would have to put the brake in, and press the button on the shifter. I’ve only tried going in revweae without using my brake while going less then 1mph but it worries me that the shifter can freely move into reverse while driving, is there no mechanism in the car that prevents from that happening?

    So there’s no safety mechanism against that? Someone can just slide the shifter into reverse while driving?

      Yeah. Lots of cars are like this. It’s not good, of course, but there are many opportunities to break your car. Same reason lots of old cars have manual hand brakes, and you can use it to initiate a slide.
