Hey guys I’m out of my depth here and I need help.
We are expecting a second baby and we need a larger car that can comfortably fit 2 baby seats in the back (and a 3rd passenger to squeeze with them.
We narrowed down our search to 2 potential options, but I need your support in helping me choose which is the most economical, reliable, and comfortable.
Option 1:
- 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLA (180 Urban Limited)
- Mileage: 62000 km (38500 mi)
Option 2 (also used by the way):
- 2023 Skoda Kamiq (1.0 TSI Ambition)
- Mileage: 6000 km (3728 mi)
Thanks a ton!
Get a superb, it’s much roomier than any suv at the same size
I haven’t driven either but I feel like the Skoda would be the more practical/sensible option assuming there isn’t a big price difference.
The Skoda is much newer and based on some CarWow videos on YouTube about practicality for both cars the Skoda seems to have a bigger boot and ISOFIX point on the front passenger seat as well.
The only reason you would go for the GLA is because you want a Mercedes. The Skoda is easily the better option here
Both of them as very small. You should verify that you can fit in the middle of two baby seats.
The GLA is technically one class bigger than the Kamiq and is more akin to a Karoq, but in reality they should be similar with how spacefficient the Skoda is.
You’ll get a lot more car for the money if you were to consider an Octavia estate. All round much bigger car.
I work at a shop that sees a lot of different cars.
Do not get a GLA/CLA. They are terrible vehicles.
Really? I have an Astra sports tourer and was thinking about getting a cla shooting brake in 2 years. It looks very bossy which I love.
Why are they bad?
There’s an entire laundry list of why these cars are firmly in the “avoid” category. In short, lots and lots of problems with the engine and electronics. Ever heard “there are few things more expensive than a cheap German car”? That definitely applies to the A’s.
Oh, ok! Thank you so much! What would be your pick then?
Insignia caravan Leon Cupra caravan Audi a4 Astra caravan Skoda octavia caravan Ford focus caravan
I like caravan cars (kombi) that look bossy and are fast, but don’t cost more than 30k. Like for example seat leon cupra. If I could Id buy a audi S6 but unfortunately I don’t have 80k to spare…
Out of that list, I’d go with the Insignia. Solid cars that are relatively cheap to maintain
Go for the Kamiq. The 1 litre TSI is peppy enough, gives great consumption. Much more roomier inside, and more headroom. Easier for access to the baby seats.
GLA is way better, kamiq feels inside like polo inside, I’m not a fan of kamiq. Also that 1.5 Renault engine in Merc is one of the best small diesel engines ever made. Did you consider the latest B class Merc maybe?
Have a look at carwow tests. I dont think you’ll fit 2 seats comfortably in the back of the GLA.
Also - go to a dealership with the seats and try it out yourself.
