Wassup yall,I have an 87 Ram 50 with a 360 v8 and 727 transmission swap. Its an actual turd and tops out at 50 mph with very high rpm’s.Could changing the gear ratio help? If it helps at all the rear tires are larger than the fronts.I’ve never messed with gears so I’m asking here. Thanks guys
Yeah it shifts through all 3,It has the wrong kickdown cable so the shift points are a little high but it shifts fine.I’m not sure what gears it has,How would I go about figuring that out?
Lift the rear end up, put the truck in neutral, and count roughly how many times the driveshaft spins a full rotation to the number of times it takes a wheel to do one full rotation.
I stole this from another forum:
If it takes approx. 3.5 DS rotations would be a 3.55
Closer to 4 full DS rotations would be 3.91
Okay I’m gonna try that thank you
Is it a former mud truck or something?
I was told the previous owner was building it out to drag race but he did a half ass job and sold it to me,So I’m in the process of fixing everything
I guess I would start with the procedure someone else mentioned to figure out the gear ratio of the rear end
