Hi all,
Been a Toyota lover for a long time.
Driving a 2020 Corolla right now and I love it, but my gf needs a new car and I can afford a new one for myself and give her my car.
Love how reliable and well built the 06 Camry and now the 20 Corolla have been to own.
I know the GR86 is collab with Subaru and I had some concerns about the quality.
Has anyone driven one of these long term? (5-10 years)
Thanks for any info you guys can give :)
The older ones are not horrible. The new gens haven engine problems at the moment. They’re incredibly fun but not reliable enough for me personally. I ended up getting a Miata instead. Same driving experience, slightly less refined but still incredibly fun. And the engines don’t blow up. Can you get a GR Corolla?
Engine failures up to now have only included vehicles being tracked. Everyday drivers have not experienced this.
I mean, I have a buddy that had one and he doesn’t track his cars and his engine gunked out. It’s happening to everyone. I’ve been to track days and Miata’s are always in the top 3 of cars being tracked, new and older gens, so that’s also not a valid point. Lots of people on forums posting about their new 86 engines blowing with no track use, although not everyone might be telling the truth. All in all, anything that’s not 100% a Toyota engine might not be worth it but that’s my personal opinion and this is just my personal feedback. I think the 86 is cool but the colab with Subaru is enough to keep me away
Sadly it’s just outta my price range :(
Idk why I’m getting downvoted. Either way, the new 86 have issues that steer me away from it currently. The older models are fairly reliable as long as you stay away from the first couple of years. So a 20-22 one would be perfect imo, and if you find one bone stock even better
Even if you’re getting downvoted, know that I still appreciate the help :)
