For example with a Ryzen 3 or 5? Or in between?
I have a laptop with a Ryzen 5 6 cores and 12 threads. Would this be better than the Steam Deck’s CPU?
The Ryzen 3, 5 and 7 designations, along with Intel’s equivalents i3, i5, and i7, are meaningless outside comparing within a particular generation. It’s basically a good, better, best rating system (which is already vague), and only means anything when comparing with siblings in the same line. Given enough generations, a Ryzen 3 could actually be better than a Ryzen 7 in an older gen.
Thing is, the Deck is not a traditional PC (regardless of what their marketing says) - and that is a Good Thing™.
The Deck has a max power output that is intentionally throttled for power savings. This makes any sort of Apples to Apples comparison effectively impossible.
I would pick a game you play on that laptop - tell us your settings and what performance you’re getting - we’ll tell you if/how much better it is…
I’m not sure about AMD GPU but it is about a GTX 1050.
