If you have a VAG I use ‘OBD Eleven pro’ works good because on some vehicles you have to reprogram a battery.

i have that exact one it’s good and free to use but when you first get it it auto signs you up for a $70/year subscription that basically only points you to a mechanic that can fix any problems it finds (unless if you work on your own car) and the subscription is a pain to cancel but if you do get it cancelled it’s pretty good

I use it for my ‘09 Jetta and my ‘18 Forester. I think it’s fine. I don’t pay for their subscription. I barely use the app. It’s worked the few times I ran into problems and it pointed me in the right direction.

People keep buying these dongles because theyre cheap (under $100). You need to buy a real obd2 scanner with brand specific menus and cable connector. Bluetooth scanners can mess up your zero level calibrations because they aren’t properly programmed for different protocols.

I hope people aren’t dumb enough to think that by clearing a code in their car is going to make the problem go away? yes, the light will go out but will come right back on when the problem continues, no?

besides making a potential buyer think there are no problems with a car, why would you want to just clear the codes if the problem wasn’t fixed?

Torque pro is $2 flat one time payment, an ELM327 adapter is $5 on eBay with free shipping.

With those two things I can view and clear codes and look at live data. Hell I can make a whole ass custom dash if I’m bored.

If you want anything more , you’ll want a proper scanner. Can’t help you there. I’m broke and don’t have one.

I use this all the time, works fine for just finding the basic ideas of what’s wrong. Reads your codes and let’s you know what they mean, it’s really all you need.
