Ordered a new blower motor and haven’t received it yet. Just wondering if this style of cage is easy to swap over to the new one since I ordered it without a wheel/cage.
Use a small punch and hammer. Have someone hold the cage while you hit the shaft. Old blower motor will fall off. Set new blower on a bench. Take a socket that’s bigger than the shaft but not bigger than the top and tap on. Been a wrench for close to 30 years have done this countless times without issue.
Even with the plastic style top in the picture?
If that plastic clip ends up breaking off I’d try something like grinding a groove in the shaft for a c-clip, or threading it and double-nutting, or drilling for a pin. Something like that.
I’m guessing that’s what holds it to the metal shaft. Just my luck lol. Why couldn’t you just have a clip or some normal type of attachment. I’ve never even seen one but apparently the Jeep has a real similar blower motor from the same years more or less
Yes, it’s nylon. It’s made for it.
So I can just take a punch and hold the cage and the motor will fall out?
Sorry for the delay but yes.
Thanks. I’ll try that first. New OEM minus cage saves like $220. Worth a shot
Have you looked at a scrap yard?
I haven’t. My fan blower in my vehicle started making a humming noise. I’m more than sure my cage or wheel is in good shape. But judging by the pictures I don’t know how to remove it because of this strange looking plastic piece on top.
I just don’t understand how they would even manufacture a blower without the ability to change just the blade/cage. Most others have a press clip or sometimes a ring that’s easily removed
I put a oem in my truck a few weeks ago. Got it from rock auto for a fraction of the price as everywhere else
Send it back and get one with a cage or you’ll soon regret it. I’ve been told they become out of balance and warp easily and you will have noise and shorter motor life span.
Is there a way to lubricate an OEM one to prevent noise.
If its squeakin theres no real fix. You can take em apart and put some silicone grease on the motorshaft where it rides in the bushings but doesnt last long
Mine is not squeaking. I can just hear it whirling like a fan. It may be that the cover was lost or something. I even went to the junk yard and got one and nothing changed. That’s why I’m hesitant to spend on a brand new one.
