He’s the second best striker in the league. We just broke our premier league record for the most goals in a season with him up front. I’m not concerned about his finishing at all.
What he is saying is more nuanced than the headline which we all understand. Nonetheless it’s damning statement coming from your number 9 when you have title hopes and throws more fuel on that fire that we need a 20 goal striker a season come January or in the summer.
He can score goals, it’s just that he likes to score beautiful goals. We’ve seen some bangers from him, but the bangers are a bit more convoluted to set up and can give the defenders a split second more time to react. Which means he’s going to score less than he probably should. If he wants more goals he has to forget about the aesthetics and just take his chances more directly, you don’t get extra points for how beautiful your goals were.
Agree. Sometimes he does an extra unnecessary move when he already has his man beat. Too good for his own good.
Yeah, the man is an artist when we really want him to be a killer. If he just scored the scrappy ones first the pressure would be off and he’d find it easier to get the beautiful ones :)
To be fair his scoring record wasn’t that bad considering he spent a large part of it injured.
Brev
I mean he isn’t wrong but it’s so strange because he has patches where he genuinely seems like a world class finisher.
Either way statements like this aren’t good to be out in the open. Can see us being in for that 25 g/s striker in the next 2 windows.
True - Remember his first goal for us against Leicester? That finish was exquisite
I was lucky to be there that game sitting high up but with a perfect view right in line behind him. Ridiculous finish. Then the next day I went on a stadium tour and took a selfie right in his spot in the locker room.
Seems like every time he gets a good run of form he picks up a knock though. Fingers crossed
Yeah we definitely need an inevitable forward. Takes massive edge of our players having a trusted goalscorer
Honestly, I’m not bothered. Guy is a world class false 9 and every single thing he does other than finishing is consistently top class.
People in 5/10 years time will do what they usually do with strikers and say “oh look at his goalscoring…”, but just watch him and there’s no way that argument stands up.
It’s the same thing that I’m seeing now with people like Drogba and Bergkamp. Just lazy.
I am not bothered by Jesus, him being in the team is a boon even if he plays only half a season - but looking ahead, we need a proper striker. Martinelli, Saka, Jesus and Tross are all chaos players - they will create chances, but not score most games. We need a more prolific, selfish scorer - someone who bags in 20+ a season in the league. Auba was the closest to that after Van Persie, but we need someone younger with a better workrate.
Havertz isn’t a scorer either!
Well, to play devil’s advocate, Drogba scored. And Bergkamp assisted so many that his tally is still high up in the stats. Jesus has a long way to go.
In the Premier League:
Drogba - 254 games, 17549 minutes, 104 goals, 55 assists, 0.53 g/90, 0.79 non pen g+a/90
Jesus - 192 games, 11752 minutes, 70 goals, 35 assists, 0.54 g/90, 0.77 non pen g+a/90In the Champions League:
Drogba - 93 games, 7293 minutes, 44 goals, 13 assists, 0.54 g/90 0.68 non pen g+a/90
Jesus - 41 games, 2445 minutes, 23 goals, 5 assists, 0.85 g/90, 0.96 non pen g+a/90So yeah, the whole devil’s advocate with Drogba thing is pure nonsense.
Drogba was always (or tried to be) paired with a prolific striker though - Shevchenko, Torres. And maybe Mourinho’s game just needed a pitbull who played with his back to goal and scored in key moments, as they had lots of 1-0s and 2-1s. Wish we still had Giroud - he was somewhat like Drogba, but with silkier link up play, aged like fine wine too.
I digress - my point being - Arsenal need a prolific striker. Just take a punt on someone who wants to score every game (Nketiah probably is the closest for us with that attitude), but with actual skill to do it.
Against Arsenal, Drogba - 1.00 goal/90 probably
Don’t remind me.
Only because his most common center back were djourou and senderos
found the accountant.
Jesus is one of the CL’s best goal scorers. He hasn’t got as far to go as you think
Jesus is 34 goals off drogba in the PL and he’s scored far more than drogba ever did in the CL, in less time.
Not sure he will reach drogba’s PL tally but he’ll end up somewhere super close
Are we actually comparing Drogba to Jesus here…good lord.
Or are you just another token American basing your opinions on statistics?!
Very ignorant comment this
Factual though
Intentionally forgot the cluster fuck of stats system xG that Europeans and Brits love to use to base all their opinions on or just stupid?
Only clowns on Sky Sports care about xG lad.
I’m not even American lmao I’m from Islington
Lmao
You’ve just proven Gabriel’s and OPs point lmao.
It’s actually nuts he’s only 30 odd goals away from Drogba considering he’s 26. Also largely played as a winger or second fiddle to Ageuro at City for most of his career in the prem.
Guessing Firmino must’ve been trash to you because he didn’t score goals?
He finishes better from the wing. Removes the any ability of indecision when he’s basically forced to go to one side because of the angle.
Not saying he should be a winger, it’s just an observation.
He needs to perform like Titi Henry…else we need to replace him
If this isn’t a joke this is the worst take of all time, for obvious reasons
We haven’t had strikers who could do what Henry does - he was literally the best player in the world at the time (or there abouts) for a few years with us… Sure RVP or Auba may have hit the scoring numbers but they wouldn’t have gotten the assist numbers
There should almost be a mandatory video of Henry to watch before comparing someone else to him. Literally all you have to do is watch some old game footage to see there’s not been another Henry before, or after Henry. The man was on a level all his own. Like a custom character in FIFA. I’ve seen other players come close but, I’ve never seen another player that could just willingly shift into overdrive anytime they wanted, in the blink of an eye against any opposition.
The only athlete I’ve seen that I’d dare compare to him doesn’t even play football, and they’re well past it now themselves (LBJ).
Power, pace, finishing, passing, assists, flair…
The man could do everything
Agreed. Love the flair btw ⭐
literally the best player in the world at the time
(or there abouts)for a few years with usFTFY
No, I am not biased.
David Raya has admitted that shot stopping is not his “strong point”.
Perfect for us this season as we are struggling more in chance creation than goal scoring. Jesus as the No.9 will help the whole team play a lot better.
Honestly for a team with a striker that can’t score and a keeper that can’t focus for 90 minutes, we’re doing pretty fucking fine finishing above teams not named Manchester City
And if not for the Newcastle blatant refs. We would be on par with City. People needs to grow up.
I mean, is not a big secret, but it is still curious to see him openly talk about it. Considering this and all that he brings besides finishing, I wonder if wouldn’t be important to get a more traditional striker to situations that Arsenal needs someone strong to put the ball in the net (basically the younger version of someone like Klose, Koller, Dzeko, Drogba).
Honestly, he doesn’t need to prove to anyone about his own abilities. It is not entirely just about scoring goals as much as it is about contributing to the team and being part of a system that effectively tilts the winning probability in your team’s favour on matchdays, and that’s really exactly what he is all about, at least for now.
That isn’t to say he cannot evolve his game any further too, he has still many good years left in him to work on that part of his game, and i believe he will should he be able to keep himself fit and healthy for most parts of the seasons now and moving forward.
While I feel that I know what he means, that statement is perfect fodder for ridicule.
Should have worded it differently or kept it to himself.
Shouldn’t have said it at all
Ramsdale “I can’t concentrate”, Jesus “I can’t score”
Is our PR advisor on maternity leave or something?
There’s nothing wrong with what either of them said
Looool bruh who the fuck are advising these people. Couldn’t believe it
Ramsdale doesnt play anymore and if Jesus continues to give such comments I think he will be very fast a good friend with Rams on the bench
