I’m using HP 14s since the past 4 years. The noise has started to make noise, I opened the laptop and cleaned the dust, wondering if it was causing the noise. But it still makes the noise. Can you help me figure out if everything is okay with my fan (or is it broken/or wore out because it aged)? Should I replace it?
take it out, clean it, put it inside and lubricate it, listen to me, it has happened to me that I have changed a fan twice and it ended up going back to the original one after lubricating it well.
stock thermal paste is probably dead and fan keeps kicking in full blast to try and cool down the chip. my temps dropped 20+ degrees after aplying quality thermal paste so try it out
You might have to replace it.
Try repasting your CPU before you give up on the laptop. 4 years of use could have the paste fairly dry and affecting the cooling which would explain fans ramping up.
Fan motors go out a loud one is a hint that it is failing. They are like 15 bucks on ebay you already did half the work opening up the laptop.
Your vent looks like the underside of a pan and I can’t unsee it
Can temporarily fix it with a drop of oil. Pop the fan off the winding and put a tiny drop of oil on the shaft and reassemble. I did it yesterday and even successfully reused dried up compound by adding a drop of oil and reapplying it.
pull fan out and extract top piece so that it reveals motor bearing
grease it with mobil grease, very lightly and seriously don’t overdose it or it will get stuck later, and then clean off any excess and run it with canned air just to make sure it’s clear of dust, gunk and excess garbage
replace fan it it still continues to fail
