It’s finally here. This discussion ends today 😂
Taki Udon’s new neat video with really useful comparisons between both models in various scenarios.
The 1TB version we can say that has the best of both worlds, but at the end of the day just buy the console you would be happy with, and have fun.
Is the etched more resistant to minor blemishes or micro scratches?, I am crazy about that, I always use screen protectors in my devices since the moment I remove the manufacturers protective plastic, I am not planing to use protector on my LE OLED(I believe a protector will anule the antiglare effect), considering I am extremist taking care of my electronics, should be good to go without screen protector? There is any kind of protector that does not affect the anti glare? Any advise will be appreciated.
You can get a matte/etched screen protector (I have one on my base LCD Deck) but it will never be quite as high quality as having it built in to the screen. If you’re that concerned about damage to the screen, maybe a screen protector is the way to go (matte or not).
But I feel like the majority of the time, people will put on a screen protector and leave it on regardless of whether it has scratches or negatively affects the image quality in some other way. Most people don’t bother to swap it regularly. Still, it might be a good idea for the peace of mind, or to make a glossy screen matte or vice versa.
You mean that reddit people threw complaints and tantrums over nothing? Incredible.
What a great video, spot on.
Just get the device for the storage size you need and forget the rest
More people got them by now and compared. In short people overblew on the “negatives” of etched.
I don’t think it’s overblown. The glossy is better, yet cheaper. People just thought their LE or 1TB was going to suck, but that’s not what anybody said. They said the AG slightly degrades picture quality, and they’re right.
He also literally says that if you have the money to buy the etched glass, get that one, because it’s better across a wider variety of conditions than the glossy display.
Literally the only point where the glossy is “better” is when you’re getting a sort of indirect line at an angle that causes diffusion across the screen.
I’m much rather just change my position slightly and have a screen that won’t be a mirror vs buying a display that can preserve blacks ever so slightly better in just one specific case.
Still shocks me that the people dying on the glossy hill feel the need to do so; it just comes off as cope. The etched glass display comes as a premium feature for a reason.
Happy I got the LE, wanted it to look different than my previous deck anyway, will make it feel like a newer device lol
I’m personally going to get the 512 and buy an etched screen protector like he mentioned. I’m going to put a screen protector either way, so this seems like the more affordable option for me. But this is great to see for people getting the LE version.
It’s just down to use case. At 13:10 time stamp you can clearly see that the etched glass has less vibrancy and it’s noticeable when compared to the glossy.
As someone who owns the LCD AG, I can confirm loss of vibrancy with the etched screen. I can also confirm that the AG screen doesn’t do great in bright environments anyways.
It seems to me many people just want to hear they didn’t make a mistake buying the etched version. In reality, it’s a matter of you do you. Who cares about comparative performance? If you’re happy with whatever arrives in the mail, be happy and forget about what anyone else thinks.
People care because Valve put them in a precarious position where the most expensive option isn’t the best. People aren’t used to it.
but the most expensive version still is the best. i think you did not understand the video at all.
I ordered both instead of trusting the internet’s opinion.
My etched BOE panel looks slightly faded compared to my glossy Samsung panel.
Could be because of the panel manufacturer, could be because of the etched.
Unrelated but annoying: my LE’s dpad is mushier than my 512 OLED’s. So even if the screen looked the same, the LE would go back. It’s immediately noticeable.
Also ordered both and noticed the same dpad mush on LE
THANK YOU!
I was going insane. Why in the world would the LE dpad be different??
Ah well, my glossy looks better anyway.
This is a cool vid and all but I wish he compared them in a house of mirrors. My primary use case is when I get lost in theme parks and I need those OLED colours to POP!
The discussion ended when it started
lol did you even watch the video? It depends on the lighting. In normal indoor conditions, the etched glass washes out the colors
Glossy for me, just like my OLED TV
