Hi

I normally take my watch off when going to the hot sauna and steam room, however I noticed some people come in wearing their apple watches, I keep wondering if this is safe especially for the battery to be exposed to such high temperatures and for the watch electronics overall ?

I still think it is unsafe but correct me if I’m wrong

I use it all the time in the sauna previously with my series 6 and now ultra 2. Always run the cooldown workout to track my heart rate and usually stay in for 10-15 minutes and have never run into a problem. Sauna temp usually at 200 degrees Fahrenheit

Whilst it’s not recommended, I took my Apple Watch Series 4 into the swimming pool (that’s ok) and sauna, steam room and infrared room 3 times a week for years. With zero issues.

I now confidently take my shiny new Apple Watch Ultra 2 in there and had zero issues.

I disagree with everyone in this thread so far based on my own experience.

Had every watch from the OG to the latest Ultra 2, upgrading every year. Worn every single one in a hot dry sauna and my own personal home steam room. Not one issue ever. I always have AppleCare+ on them though. I also wear my AirPods in those environments. Never issues either.

I workout 4-6 days a week and use a sauna or steam room every time. Never had a single issue with any watch. YMMV but that’s my experience.

Sauna != Sauna. There are saunas with 50°C and saunas with around 100°C. I personally wouldn’t risk a phone in a 100°C sauna.

here’s the support documentation for acceptable operating temperatures. Additionally in the handling information it mentions that use in high temperatures can degrade the water resistance.

Personally, I take mine off when I go into the steam room or sauna as it would be uncomfortable to wear when it’s that hot, but I also see people wear theirs in and/or bring in their entire phone. (Typically I leave my phone outside and just wear headphones in if I want to listen to a podcast/music). I think the amount of time you spend in there probably also affects your preference, sometimes people just come in the sauna for 10-15min which is likely less affecting than a 45min session.

I’ve been wearing my Series 5 in the steam room, sauna and hot tub 4-5 times per week for the last year. No issues.

I’ve never treated my Apple Watch differently than any other watch, worn it all sorts of conditions and it works fine.

I take a sauna 2-3 times per week for a couple of years now. I always take my Apple Watch with me. Never had any issues. Doing this since owning an S5.

Anecdotal. But I’ve been wearing my Apple Watch in the sauna everyday for almost 3 years now and it’s never been an issue. (I have upgraded to different Apple Watches during that time, but no watch has yet had any issues related to sauna use)

I use a steam room about 30 minutes straight each day since 2018 and I’ve never had a issue

I have had my ultra in a sauna but not long. I have also had it in a hot saltwater soak as with no ill effects.

I use it… twice a week. So far, no issues. I will keep it using, if a watch can’t survive a sauna I will just quit wearing one.

You guys are talking out of your asses. I took my aw 7 to the sauna at least 3 times a week for a year. No problem. Now the ultra 2 has no problems. I also take a cold shower in between sauna reps and it’s fine. Is it the best thing you can do to the aw? No. But it will work just fine
