I got my m440i last August (2022) brand new and already had to change the battery once earlier this July (2023) as I kept on getting a low battery alert. I figured it was a bad battery at the time and made sure to get Energizer 2032 lithium in the replacement.
Much to my dismay, I got the alert again yesterday, about 4 months after I last changed the battery. My last BMW’s key fobs lasted much longer. The key fobs for another one of my previous cars lasted well over 7 years on the original battery; car passed on to relative so I’m aware of the current condition.
Is anyone else experiencing poor battery life on their newer fobs or is this a possible faulty key fob?
Note: I use remote start on occasion and tend to use my key to open the trunk remotely.
I’ve had this before, did you touch both sides of the battery at the same time? It shorts the battery and reduces battery life significantly.
Try to change it with plastic, non conductive tweezers instead and see if it’s better
I just replaced my first one this week in my 2019 F90. No idea if it’s been replaced before by service.
Seems to be no comments about a solution… sooooo where do you store your key when you’re not using it? If you store it in or near your car it is constantly communicating with the car and batteries will die faster. Especially with comfort access. A good tip is to keep the key fob more than 15-20ft away from the car(even if there is a wall in between).
I had the same thing with various known brands and Amazon’s own. Once I changed to a legit Duracell it’s been over 2 years and still going strong
So at one point I had to change my key fob battery and about 6-8 months later had to change it again. Strangely enough it’s been over 3 years and I haven’t changed it since.
