I’m trying to transfer files in desk top mode, I’ve tried my USB-C flash drive and an external SSD hub I have and neither are detected by my OLED steam deck. I’ve formatted both as NTFS and ExFat and neither work. Can someone help me?

strange: i’m on 3.5.7 on my SD OLED but i’ve still to switch in BIOS “USB Dual Role Device” from DRD to XHCI to get external drives or gamecontrollers work.

I’m having the same problem with my OLED Deck. External hard drive and a USB flash drive aren’t being acknowledged as being plugged in

Very glad I ran into this as I thought I was going crazy but my 512GB OLED isn’t recognizing external SSD’s either. Tried different drives / cables / even exfat and FAT32… wow. They need to fix this asap.

Go into bios (hold down plus volume and press power on)

Change USB Dual Role Device from DRD to XHCI

this fully worked btw - thank you. I tried beta and preview builds and they didn’t fix the issue. Do you think there’s anything negative about keeping it like this? what is the difference in DRD vs XHCI?

Did you mount the drives? SteamOS does not mount external drives by default, you have to do it manually.

It’s bugged for now. I had this issue as well and my post was deleted by a mod for no reason other than to tell me to talk about it on the OLED post which is stupid for a big bug like this.

You’re going to have to load up whatever files you need to transfer and insert the USB stick or whatever you’re using to get the files and restart the deck. It’ll show up that it’s connected now but be aware that once you disconnect the USB stick it won’t mount again until you leave it on there and restart again.

I wasted 25 bucks going to Best buy to get a new USB stick thinking mine didn’t work anymore because of this bug.

Yep, same issue and “solution” for me too right now. I’ve contacted support about it. Hopefully they come back to me saying it’s a known software issue.

This. I have almost lost my mind yesterday trying to connect anything thinking I have faulty equipment. Seams like only charging is working without issues, but data transfer is buggy. True fact is that only after reboot with device connected it will be seen by SD, and also true is that disconnecting and connecting again will not work until yet another reboot. At least to my understanding, hardware is ok, but this have to be something fixable within software/bios.
