The car does need a GOOD thermal management system to prevent it from overheating. Not every EV will be a good car to tow due to this. Tesla, Ford F150 Lightning, Rivian are able to tow for a prolonged period of time. The rest = ?

Charging is often not set up for pull through, or the parking spots are too short to accommodate a car with trailer. That means you often have to get rid of the trailer in order to charge & reattach it afterwards.

I was doing some research on the 2024 GMC Sierra, which claims a 400 mi range. Of course the range degradation depends on what you’re towing, but for my 3000 lb camper, it would’ve cut that range in half.

Towing with an EV at max trailer weight with a flat front trailer will cut your range to 33% of normal non-trailer range. The less weight and the more aerodynamic the trailer is the less it will degrade your range but you will take a significant hit towing any trailer.

Range will totally take a hit, same as in an ICE vehicle.

I think the biggest problem would be the lack of pullthru spots at chargers. You’d have to unhitch to charge at many chargers and that would be a royal pain in the ass.

You’ll definitely get less range, plan on half or less. With a teardrop you’ll probably do a bit better.

Charging with a trailer is hit or miss. If you’re lucky enough to be able to be selective about chargers along your route, you can minimize dropping the trailer.
