Me personally I think Alvarez is a far better player. Seeing Nunez constantly throw away his chances constantly is so funny.
Both are really good players but imho, Alvarez is a little bit overrated because of how successful the teams he plays for (City, Argentina) have been lately. Good teams also seem to have no problems shutting him down. Nunez came into a transitional Liverpool team and has done fairly well. Sure he misses a lot of chances but he creates a lot of them himself and his ceiling is like 25+ goals/season if he improves his finishing which Alvarez is never getting to in goal contributions.
People will bring up the miss chances from Nuñez just like OP did that’s the go to. He also creates alot of chances as well. Alot alot
Alvarez plays well at striker and attacking midfielder behind haaland. He has versatility that sets him apart from Nunez.

This’ll be one of those threads people come back to in three years and wonder how people could be so wrong… Nunez is elite
Personally, I think they’re pretty evenly dangerous. It depends on the team’s style of play. I could see myself choosing each over the other in different teams. That said, if I could only have one, I think I’d take Darwin because he has more potential and upside. I think his best is better than Julian’s, personally.
Who is Julian Alvarez?

It depends on what aspect you’re looking at. If you want a striker who’s going to burn past defenders and leave them in the dust, your gonna want nunez to be your striker. However if you want a more technical striker who will do more dribbling and passing, you’d want Alvarez.
It’s hard to compare these two as they both have only had one year in the premier league and they both play in their own separate play styles. In a year or two this will definitely be a discussion but atm, imho, it’s too soon to say.

Maybe if Alvarez played at all instead of riding the bench to a Libertadores, PL, FA cup, Champions League, and World Cup, we could give a fairer judgement. No but seriously, he’s being wasted at City being played out of position because he’s backup for the best #9 in the world. I think if he played for Chelsea who urgently need a striker he’d be top 5 in the Prem
