I was thinking about this for awhile, and was wondering if anyone else felt that people are hesitant to award Premier League players with the credit they deserve?

Eg. Am I crazy or was Haaland not winning the Ballon D’or really disrespectful towards the Premier League?

He set the goals record, and won the treble.

You Look over the list of winners and in the premier league era only Michael Owen and Ronaldo have ever won it while playing for a premier league team.

How did Henry not win it in 2003?

I feel like now that he is dominating a much poorer league Harry Kane is finally getting the respect he deserves.

Jude Bellingham is getting bonus credit for doing it for Real Madrid.

To your point about Messi winning it over Haaland. I can see the case for Haaland and if he won it then fair play. However…he was missing in the two finals for the treble. Messi won the World Cup, won the most motms for the cup, most goals, most assists. Most momts in europes top 5 that Callander year. The World Cup is the greatest tournament and he was the greatest player in the tournament. That’s why it’s fair to give it to Messi.

That being said, lewa was most definitely robbed 2 years ago 😢

No it’s also national team captains and coaches that’s why it’s not heavily favoured to international performances

Idk. Messi and Ronaldo has dominated for countless years and Ronaldo also won it when he was at Man Utd (first time around).

I think there are a couple of things this year. Like KDB, Rodri and Haaland all splitting the man city votes. I don’t think it’s unreasonable that some people think KDB or Rodri was better than Haaland. Man City are an incredible team and individual awards is more achievable when you are the undisputed star your team.

Henry 2003: Nedved was also insanely good in that period. I get why some people thought Henry was better; but there wasn’t daylight between the two players.

Ultimately individual awards in team sports are a bit weird.

Imagine people are still upset about the greatest ever footballer getting his due accolades, the only sport that does this btw

Bundesliga isn’t a much poorer league imo. Kane is dominating because Bayern are the superior team and he has a world class squad providing chances. If he signed for city I imagine he would have been “dominating” the league aswell. If he stayed with spurs he would also be scoring for fun as ange ball would also provide him more chances. He’s always been good, spurs just struggled in recent years.think the English premiership is one of the most respected leagues in the world. Buying a top player from the prem costs a fortune. As for them players not winning the ballon d’or I’ve no idea the reasons.

Simply because the best players in the world play outside the PL. The only proper argument is Henry 2003. Haaland didn’t score in a single final, failed to qualify for World Cup.

The ballon dor isn’t a most goals award

Nah, Premier League is overrated, if it was as good as it made out, why do English clubs not do better in Europe on the regular?

Before you downvote, I am a fan of a Premier League club

It isn’t purposely biased against the prem but the fact that there’s so many tough games in the prem means an epl striker would struggle to put up ballon d’or numbers. Which makes haaland even more deserving. He’s just unlucky Messi won the World Cup tbh. Messi might not deserve but at the end of the day it’s 75% popularity contest and 25% performance

It’s so blatant it’s hard to even care, they actually stepped it up to a whole new level of nonsense this year with Messi.

World Cup performance is literally always the driver of Ballon d’Or winner in a WC year. Look at Modric, Cannavaro etc. Nothing new or stepped up.
