Just changed my 2008 civic rear brakes because the right side wasted to bare metal while the left side still had plenty of life left. When I did so, I was wary about the caliper because of the uneven wear. However, I was able to twist the piston back in so I just did the brake job and thought maybe its fine. I also wanna mention that I looked at the slide pins which were good. However, today after driving for the first time on the new brakes and on my 40 minute commute, I touched the rotors with my hand and the right side was super hot and the left side cool. So now, its clear if I keep driving like this even with my new rotors and pads, that this right side rear is gonna rapidly wear out the pads and rotors like it did. With this heat, does this absolutely mean the caliper piston is sticking/seized? I’m wondering if I should go and buy a new caliper. I’m asking because I heard people say the parking brake can also malfunction leading to this but it seems to work properly, and also I heard internally the brake hose can mess up but I wouldn’t see it. So, to sum it all up, I’m trying to confirm if it is indeed my right side rear caliper that is the problem so I can go ahead and buy the part and swap it out. Any advice would be really appreciated. Press your brakes hard several times, then open the bleeder on the rear right. Some fluid may come out. If fluid sprays out, I’d suspect a hose. If it doesnt, you can most likely rule that out. Check the position of the barking brake lever on the caliper in comparison to the left side. If they’re in the same position you can rule out parking brake. If they’re in different positions, and the cable is tight, it may be the parking brake. If the cable is loose, it’s the caliper. If all those check out ok, I’d replace the caliper.
