Hi all,

(Posted previously on r/mechanic but saw this group afterwards)

Recently my check engine light and “the light that pops up when it’s slippery out” have stayed on permanently on my dash. (When I initially turn on my car, only the check engine light turns on but upon putting my car into drive and driving a few feet, that’s when the second light turns on)

I purchased 2 car diagnostic tools to see what error code(s) I would get and they both said: P0456 EVAP System leak detected (very small leak). I think that explains the check engine light but does that also explain the other light?

I plan to replace my gas cap to see if that works but are there other things I should look for? Additionally, I’m more curious if there’s anything that I should focus on regarding the second light or if those two are connected.

I appreciate the insight!

Most vehicles will disable traction control and/or stability control whenever the CEL comes on. This is for safety.

All Toyota/Lexus/Scion vehicles disable VSC/TCS when the CEL is on.

Check the under hood vacuum hoses for cracks or breaks and ONLY USE AN OEM gas cap. Aftermarket ones don’t seal as well.
