2015 Chrysler 200C. An overnight that saw 31, 32 degrees. Key fob started of the car and let it warm up 10 mins. Drove a half mile to store then quarter mile to supermarket. Left car running while I ran in for milk

On the way back I looked down and saw thermostat pinned at far right red and reading Extremely Hot. Then before I even got to park the thermostat went right back to the blue mid point, where it usually reads as normal.

Got out and popped the hood. Engine was not hot to the touch, nor was there any smoke. What can cause this?

Potentially a sensor failing or a wiring issue have to confirm its not actually overheating first. Have you recently had any work on your cooling system or engine? Have you got any coolant leaks? Is there coolant in the reservoir?
