Do I Need A Button On My Shifter Knob?

So I’m about a year deep into my first car and I’m looking to replace, more like customize cause they work fine, a few parts. One of which being the shift knob. Now I see some cool ones that have some sort of button worked into them and I see ones without.

I have a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt LT and my Shift Knob has a button. Do I need a button on my new shift knob or will it not matter?

You need that button it releases the shift solenoid actuator in order to shift
