Hello Friends!
I am in the process of considering an SSD cache upgrade for my Synology DS1522+. My usage won’t primarily involve Docker containers and databases, but these features will be used from time to time, and I’m keen to maintain efficient performance.
My queries are as follows:
- Storage Size for SSD: Given my occasional use of Docker and databases, what SSD capacity would be most suitable?
- Influence of SSD Speed: To what extent does the speed of an SSD impact the performance of the caching process?
- Single vs. Dual SSD Setup: Would having a dual SSD setup for caching provide a noticeable improvement over a single SSD?
I would greatly value your experiences or advice, especially if you have experience with SSD caching on a similar NAS model. Are there any specific brands or models you would suggest?
Particularly, I’m looking at these two models, currently available at significant discounts due to Black Friday sales in my region:
- Crucial P3 Plus 2TB
- WD Blue SN580 2TB
I would appreciate your input on which of these might be a better choice or if either is a worthwhile investment.
Thank you very much for your help!
Check: Synology Products Compatibility List and How do I determine the optimal SSD cache size for my volumes?
As far as I know Synology seems to be picky, and by default you can’t just try. There is an internal list? I think I’ve read recently that you can edit this?! Maybe search for yourself or someonelse knows better.
I personally have just have a small DS720+ 5TB and 2x250GB Samsung EVO 960 and this seems more than enough.
Thank for sharing the links. As far as I know you can use any SSD for cache. This list is only used if you want to use SSD as volumes. I might be wrong though.
Searching someone that knows better is exactly what I am doing with this post.:)
