I so wish we had BEV buses here in Houston. I’d prefer more light rail, but even BEV buses would be a vast improvement over the rattly, loud, uncomfortable ICE buses I use. Like the one I’m about to get on in a few minutes. Part of that is just our roads, but if I take a multi-mode trip where I jump from the light rail to the bus, the difference in ride quality is just so obvious.

Weirdly, even though the majority of Shanghai’s bus fleet is electric, I don’t think any of them are BYD buses (or at least I haven’t seen any) - most buses here are either Sunwin (SAIC) or Yutong.

I believe these are built in China, but BYD does have partnerships with local japanese bus makers so maybe some will be built in Japan?

Good for intracity service but a bit light on the capacity for commuter services. The cost is crazy. A 45 passenger electric bus from New Flyer in the US, which admittedly has much larger battery, but it’s still 4x the cost at over $1.2m/unit

Rode some electric buses in Busan, South Korea the last time I visited.

It’s very hilly there, so the torque of the electric motors was awesome. The gas buses could do the job, but were so much louder when they had to standing start uphill.

This seems very nicely priced for a bus. Another article on this I saw says deliveries start in Autumn 2025 which seems quite a whiles away.

90Kw battery on a 60 passenger bus? I thought buses have much larger battery capacity than cars…
